Top Five Indians Who Won Big in Global Lotteries

-

Indians at home and across the world love to play the lottery. This is not a big surprise given how exciting it is to sit waiting to see if your numbers have been drawn. The thrill of playing the lottery has led to many online sites offering a variety of games to enjoy.

Amongst the newest of these sites is Lottosmile which was launched in 2020. It gives lotto fans in India the opportunity to have fun while hoping that it’s their lucky day. It’s not just within the country that Indians buy lottery tickets online and offline. Some of the biggest wins for people from India have come in other countries across the globe. Let’s take a closer look at five of these wins.

Sandeep ‘Sunny’ Singh

One of the youngest lottery winners from India is Sandeep “Sunny” Singh. He won $30.5 Million Win in the Mega Millions Lottery while living in Hyannis, Massachusetts, USA in 2012.

Just a few days before he won big, Singh’s girlfriend dumped him. Winning the life-changing amount of money helped to make up for the hurt he suffered. At the time, Singh said he would give some of the money to charity and help his mother pay off a debt on her home. He also wanted to support himself while gaining a bachelor’s degree in business.

These all sound like great ways to spend some of his newly found fortune.

Balraj Awasthi

Balraj Awasthi won $12.8 million in Lotto 6/49 while living in Toronto, Canada in 2017. He was working as a chef at the time and wanted to start his own business with some of his winnings.

Awasthi also wanted to travel the world. Europe and Australia were at the top of the list of destinations he wanted to visit.

Pragnesh Peter Saija

Just four days after Balraj Awasthi celebrated his big win, fellow Canadian resident Pragnesh Peter Saija won $7 million in the Daily Grand Lottery, an offline lottery competition.

Saija said that he intended to spend his winnings on a luxury family home. He also promised to make sure that his children were taken care of for life and had any type of education they wanted.

Tahir Ali

Tahir Ali was another Indian living in Canada who won a significant lottery prize. His success came in the Ontario 49 Lottery in 2014. His prize was $2 million.

Ali and his wife were amazed at their lucky win. They spoke of using some of the money on an excellent education for their children.

Nirmal Dhamodarasamy

Nirmal Dhamodarasamy was studying at a university in Chicago, USA when he became an online Powerball winner in 2016. He was only 23-years-old at the time. Dhamodarasamy had a subscription for the lottery so he automatically got his winning ticket for the draw.

He did not get the jackpot as he only lined up five numbers and not the Powerball number. However, he still won over $1 million which was enough for him to send money for his family to come from India and see his graduation as an industrial engineer.

Reading about these amazing wins shows just how much playing the lottery can change your life if you are lucky enough to win big.
