With the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19, the DD Channel has taken initiative to rerun two of the most iconic shows from 1980s, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan and B R Chopra’s Mahabharat. With the airing of these two nostalgic shows, the channel has broken all the records of TRP and viewership crossing hundreds of millions.
As the viewership of the shows is increasing exponentially, the cast and crew of the shows are trying to stay on the limelight and are using tactics to do so. The leads of both the shows are delighted and so is the older audience that the younger generation will get to learn more about the Indian mythology.
Mukesh Khanna, one of the lead characters of Mahabharata, who played the role of Bhishma Pitamah and is also the star of his own show, Shaktimaan, recently made a controversial statement. In an interview with media portal, Mukesh Khanna stated that with the reruns of series like Mahabharat, people like Sonakshi Sinha will learn about their culture and India’s history and mythology.
Actress Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha, was actually dragged into this situation because of her inability to answer a question about Ramayana. In an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, Sonakshi Sinha made a guest appearance to promote her movie. In a round of question and answer, she was asked a relatively simple question about Ramayana and she was unable to answer the question. The actress was trolled by a number of people on social media for same, and Mukesh Khanna made an insulting remark on this incident.
However, Sonakshi Sinha’s father, Shatrughan Sinha took the matters on his hands and came out to support her. The veteran actor, to defend her daughter, slammed Mukesh Khanna for his remarks and in another interview with media, said following:
“I believe someone has a problem with Sonakshi not answering a question on the Ramayan. Firstly what qualifies this person to be an expert on all things to do with the Ramayan? And who has appointed him the guardian of the Hindu religion? I am very proud of all my three children. Sonakshi became a star on her own. I never had to launch her career. She is a daughter any father would be proud to have. Not answering a question on the Ramayan doesn’t disqualify Sonakshi from being a good Hindu. She doesn’t need a certificate of approval from anyone.”
Along with Shatrughan Sinha, a lot of other celebrities like Puneet Issar and Nitish Bharadwaj too criticized Mukesh Khanna for his revolting remarks and stood for Sonakshi. Truly, every girl deserves a father like Shatrughan Sinha.
